ALL NIGHT LONG

This week has been slow. I did more intern type of activities like running scripts and answering phones. But I have been working on my writing. It's difficult to differentiate between different writing styles. When writing for film or plays the rules kind of transform from how you write for the news and vice versa. I have to change the writing here when producing. I have to remember to keep in mind the important aspect is conversation. It was easier the first week I did this. But I did produce a VO-voice over adn included a few SOT's-Sound over tape.

  1. What were you writing about?
Can you give a brief example here?
Reporting seems like very different writing than screenwriting or even writing a paper for film class...

  2. It is very different. I would start by breifing the story. "Today marks the third day of the largest snow storm in Atlanta's history. With the depth reaching a 4 inch record high, some people don't know what to do." That would be the lead. Then I would cut to and SOT or a stand up if I chose to use it as an anchor lead. If the shot was live I would simply cut tO the reporter. Reporting is very different but to work in news as a producer, the reporting aspect is one that I must understand. But the producing is similar. In both you have to have a good script, good actors(film)/ reporters(news), good shots, and good editing skills.
